Assessing oral language challenge

If you are not yet assessing oral language, start by using the Junior Oral Language Screening Tool (JOST). To access further information about this follow the link here:

JOST TEST

A useful component of this screening tool is the picture response part of the test. This will become your base line data.

If you do not wish to use the picture provided in this screening tool, you may like to choose your own picture. There are many you can choose from online. One such example of the type of picture to use is provided in this chapter as a downloadable pdf file.

Don’t forget – you can easily use audio recording to demonstrate your students’ oral language progressions. Simply record their responses to the picture, and save the audio as your record. Return to audio record the students again at a later date, and compare the two sets of data.
