About The Event

In 2022 and 2023, Amber Donaldson successfully ran a weekly Bush School experience for the students at Oxford Crescent, in partnership with Upper Hutt Council.  In this session, she will share her experience, learning, barriers and how she overcame challenges in order to get her students into the bush every week in Term 4 of each year.  In addition, Dr. Sarah Aiono will be available to share the importance of learning in the natural environment, and how this can reflect desired curriculum outcomes and foster pro-social and emotional development.

Those attending will come away with:

An understanding of what bush school can look like in a mainstream setting

How to overcome barriers related to accessing natural environments in urban school contexts

What to consider in terms of set up, risk analysis, stakeholders and communication with whānau

Practical ideas on how to start and how to keep it going
